One UI 8.5 is one of the most exciting updates for Samsung Galaxy in years. After installing it, many people simply continue using their phone as usual. However, this update brings handy features that are disabled by default or suboptimally configured.

What's wrong with the default settings

After the update, the system reverts to factory defaults in several key areas:

— the notification shade is overloaded with rarely needed toggles;

— hiding photos still requires the cumbersome Secure Folder;

— the camera viewfinder is cluttered with unnecessary icons;

— new AI wallpapers in Creative Studio have to be launched manually.

Four settings worth changing

1. Customize the quick settings panel. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen and tap the pencil icon. Drag the desired toggles into place, and remove unnecessary ones using the minus button. Some buttons can be made wider or narrower. If you want more flexibility, install the QuickStar module from the Galaxy Store (part of Good Lock). In its advanced settings, enable Resize panel items to lift the button size restrictions.

2. Enable Private Album in the Gallery. Previously, hiding a photo meant moving it to the Secure Folder, after which it disappeared from the Gallery. Now it's easier: long-press the desired shots, tap More (three dots) → Move to private album. The files disappear from the general feed but remain in the Gallery — access is only granted via fingerprint or password. To open: Gallery menu → Private album.

3. Remove unnecessary indicators from the camera. A row of icons gathers above the viewfinder, most of which are rarely needed. Install Camera Assistant from the Plugins tab in Good Lock. Open the app, scroll down, tap Customize indicators and disable the unnecessary ones — they will immediately disappear from the screen. Settings for photo and video are separate.

4. Create AI wallpapers based on your own photo. In the updated Creative Studio, you can create AI wallpapers not only from a text prompt but also based on your own snapshot — the result looks much more personal. Open Creative Studio, select Create wallpaper and upload a photo. The system will offer several styling options.

Each of these changes takes a couple of minutes, and together they noticeably improve your experience with the phone. One UI 8.5 has made Samsung more flexible — the main thing is knowing where to tap.
